Em face da necessidade de racionalização e melhor manejo de uso da agua que, para a regiao semi-arida, e indubitavelmente o principal fator limitante para producao agricola, estudou-se no Centro de Pesquisa Agropecuaria do Tropico Semi-Arido (CPATSA-EMBRAPA), a possibilidade do uso de potes de barro para fins de irrigacao. Os estudos consistiram na instalacao de potes de forma isolada (enchidos manualmente) e, numa outra alternativa, com os potes interconectados por meio de eletrotubos de 1/2" de diametro (principio de vasos comunicantes), ligados diretamente a um deposito de agua mantido a nivel constante. The aim of this work was to produce crystallized fruit from watermelon rind. The following procedure was developed: the outer peel was removed; the material was sliced into 7 mm cubes, blanched for, 0, 5 and 10 minutes, and then treated with 10% sodium chloride solution. This product was treated with solutions of sucrose (30 to 72 °Brix), and dried in a hot air dryer at different temperatures (40, 60 and 80 °C). Products were then analyzed by a sensory panel. The experimental design used was randomized blocks and the results were analyzed by the Tukey's test. The best acceptance of the sensory panel was for the product obtained by 5 minutes blanching followed by drying at 60 °C, whose intensity values for appearance, flavor and gummosis were between 6 and 7. |

Efficient use of energies on crop production helps to achieve increased production and productivity as well as profitability and competitiveness of agricultural sustainability of rural communities. The study examined profitability and energy used of rice production under two different technologies in two States of Nigeria. Primary data through structured questionnaire and interview were administered to 265 rice farmers comprising 57 semi-mechanized (Group 1) and 208 traditional (Group 2) rice farmers in both States. Results revealed that the semi-mechanized had higher income ₦370998.2 ($2348.1) per ha compared to ₦307031.1 ($1943.2) per ha from traditional technology.
